Surprise, surprise! I once again forgot to update the website after our meeting. Anyway, I hope you're enjoying your summer! Our Last MeetingI thought it was a blast -- in case you forgot, we met at the new Wesleyan R.J. Julia bookstore! Although only 33% of the club read the book, we still had a fantastic time. Summer & BeyondAs you know, book club will not be meeting over the summer. However, I don't want you to forget about our humble little club! I have a few goals for next year: 1) Designate a member of our club to update our neglected Goodreads group. By the way, if you're not a member of Goodreads, I encourage you to sign up! It's a very useful tool for you book nerds. 2) Expand our horizons beyond just meetings. Maybe we can discuss what this means, whether it's contributing to a cause or going on other outings, at our first meeting of the next school year. 3) Organize our club better. This is really only a goal for me, but I definitely need your help in reminding me to send updates. Thank you for sticking with us for another fantastic year! I'm looking forward to another great year of book clubbing. Happy summer!

Long time no see, Bookworms! First off, I'd like to apologize for the long wait. As you may have noticed, this bookworm is very busy. But we're here now, and that's all that matters! Our Next MeetingWe will be meeting on Saturday, June 3rd, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Katy's house. If this date or time does not work for you, please contact me as soon as possible so that I can change it if necessary. Our Next BookKaty has assigned Fire Color One by Jenny Valentine. It says something about love on the cover...? An interesting choice for her to make. Anyway...
Sixteen-year-old Iris itches constantly for the strike of a match. But when she’s caught setting one too many fires, she’s whisked away to London before she can get arrested—at least that’s the story her mother tells. Mounting debt actually drove them out of LA, and it’s greed that brings them to a home Iris doesn’t recognize, where her millionaire father—a man she’s never met—lives. Though not for much longer. Iris’s father is dying, and her mother is determined to claim his life’s fortune, including his priceless art collection. Forced to live with him as part of an exploitive scheme, Iris soon realizes her father is far different than the man she’s been schooled to hate, and everything she thought she knew—about her father and herself—is suddenly unclear. There may be hidden beauty in Iris’s uncertain past, and future, if only she can see beyond the flames. That's all for now, Bookworms. Enjoy the warm weather! ~ Prez Grace Hey, chaps, what's the haps? I hope you enjoyed Down the Rabbit Hole. I did (and I actually knew who the murderer was before they revealed it so yay)! Once again, I want to apologize for the confusion surrounding the date and time. I am entirely responsible, and I promise it won't happen again. Anyway... Our Next MeetingOur next meeting will really and truly be held on Saturday, April 29th, from 3:00 to 5:00 pm at Lily's house. Hope to see you there! Our Next BookLily has assigned Nowhere Near You, the sequel to Because You'll Never Meet Me, by Leah Thomas. Ollie and Moritz might never meet, but their friendship knows no bounds. Their letters carry on as Ollie embarks on his first road trip away from the woods--no easy feat for a boy allergic to electricity--and Moritz decides which new school would best suit an eyeless boy who prefers to be alone.Along the way they meet other teens like them, other products of strange science who lead seemingly normal lives in ways Ollie and Moritz never imagined possible: A boy who jokes about his atypical skeleton; an aspiring actress who hides a strange deformity; a track star whose abnormal heart propels her to victory. Suddenly the future feels wide open for two former hermits. But even as Ollie and Moritz dare to enjoy life, they can't escape their past, which threatens to destroy any progress they've made. Can these boys ever find their place in a world that might never understand them?
That's all for now. Until tomorrow, Bookworms! ~ Prez Grace What's happening, Bookworms? Welcome back to another post, now with fewer mistakes, probably! I hope y'all enjoyed answering those incredibly deep questions about Holes, courtesy of Lila. Let's hop into it. Our Next MeetingWe will be meeting on Saturday, April 1st, from 12:00 to 2:00. For real this time. The meeting will be at Cailen's house. Our Next BookCailen has assigned Down the Rabbit Hole by Peter Abrahams. Ingrid is in the wrong place at the wrong time. Or at least her shoes are. And getting them back will mean getting tangled up in a murder investigation as complicated as the mysteries solved by her idol, Sherlock Holmes. With soccer practice, schoolwork, and the lead role in her town's production of Alice in Wonderland, Ingrid is swamped. But as things in Echo Falls keep getting curiouser and curiouser, Ingrid realizes she must solve the murder on her own -- before it's too late!
Well, that's all for now. Have a dandy day! ~ Prez Grace Woot woot! Thanks for sticking with us for thirty whole meetings, Bookworms. I hope you enjoyed The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. Don't forget to finish the series! Our Next MeetingOur next meeting will be on Sunday, March 5th, at Lila's house from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Our Next BookLila has assigned Holes by Louis Sachar, a fabulous book if I do say so myself. Stanley Yelnats is under a curse. A curse that began with his no-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing-great-great-grandfather and has since followed generations of Yelnatses. Now Stanley has been unjustly sent to a boys’ detention center, Camp Green Lake, where the boys build character by spending all day, every day digging holes exactly five feet wide and five feet deep. There is no lake at Camp Green Lake. But there are an awful lot of holes. It doesn’t take long for Stanley to realize there’s more than character improvement going on at Camp Green Lake. The boys are digging holes because the warden is looking for something. But what could be buried under a dried-up lake? Stanley tries to dig up the truth in this inventive and darkly humorous tale of crime and punishment—and redemption.
Enjoy the book, and don't forget to read the sequel, Small Steps! Cheerio! ~ Prez Grace What up Bookworms! I'm sorry I missed our meeting. I was out protesting. Anyway, I hope y'all had a great time and that you enjoyed Silent to the Bone as much as I did! Our Next MeetingOur next meeting will be on Saturday, February 4th, from 3:00 to 5:00 at my house. Our Next BookI'm assigning you The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, which is about four best friends who discover a single pair of jeans that somehow fit all of them, despite their different shapes and sizes. When the girls separate for the summer for the first time, they create a plan to share the Pants. Through thick and thin, the Pants serve as a good luck charm and a reminder of home.
I apologize for the unfortunate summary - I couldn't find a good one, so I had to write it myself... Anyway, enjoy! ~ Prez Grace Hello there, Bookworms! I hope you enjoyed our last meeting. I had a great time doing our Secret Santa, and I hope you all enjoyed the gift you received - and that you had a merry Christmas! Sorry for the long wait - it's been a hectic vacation, and I've given you a little break from book club for the holidays. Our Next MeetingOur next meeting will be on Saturday, January 21st, from 3:00 to 5:00. We'll be meeting at Julia's house. Our Next BookFor our next meeting, read Silent to the Bone by E. L. Konigsburg. Connor is sure his best friend, Branwell, couldn't have hurt Branwell's baby half sister, Nikki. But Nikki lies in a coma, and Branwell is in a juvenile behavioral center, suspected of a horrible crime and unable to utter the words to tell what really happened. Connor is the only one who might be able to break through Branwell's wall of silence. But how can he prove Branwell didn't commit the unspeakable act of which he's accused when Branwell can't speak for himself? Oooo...intrigue.
Enjoy the remainder of your vacation! ~ Prez Grace Hello, young chaps! I hope you're having a wonderful day. And now you're seeing this, so it's even better! Our Last MeetingWe played Kahoot and MASH at Lily's. I had a great time! Hope y'all liked Because You'll Never Meet Me! Our Next Meeting......will be on Saturday, December 17th, from 3:00-5:00 at Katy's house. We will be doing Secret Santa (!!!), so have gifts in mind for when you draw a name sometime at lunch before then.
We'll be discussing The Thief Lord by Cornelia Funke. Rich Aunt Esther wants only angelic orphan Boniface 5, not serious Prospero 12. She hires PI Victor Getz. Thief Lord Scipo brings loot, clothes, to runaways in abandoned theatre Stella. Hornet adds brothers to gang with tall Mosca and scrawny Riccio. But Scipio hides a secret. And old Conte from a cursed isle wants a wooden wing, from grown orphan photographer Ida Spaveno, for his magic merry-go-round that changes ages. I look forward to seeing you at the meeting! ~ Prez Grace What up Bookworms! Notice how instantaneous this post was... Our Last MeetingHope y'all had fun reading/discussing/watching Murder, She Wrote. I actually loved it - and I thought we had a great discussion. Our Next MeetingOur next meeting will be on Sunday, December 4th (not on Saturday due to a shared conflict) from 1:00 to 3:00 at Lily's house.
We will be discussing Because You'll Never Meet Me by Leah Thomas. A fabulous book, if I do say so myself. Ollie and Moritz are best friends, but they can never meet. Ollie is allergic to electricity. Contact with it causes debilitating seizures. Moritz’s weak heart is kept pumping by an electronic pacemaker. If they ever did meet, Ollie would seize. But Moritz would die without his pacemaker. Both hermits from society, the boys develop a fierce bond through letters that become a lifeline during dark times—as Ollie loses his only friend, Liz, to the normalcy of high school and Moritz deals with a bully set on destroying him. A story of impossible friendship and hope under strange circumstances, this debut is powerful, dark and humorous in equal measure. These extraordinary voices bring readers into the hearts and minds of two special boys who, like many teens, are just waiting for their moment to shine. Enjoy, and hope to see you there! ~ Prez Grace
